Story by Brian Rossiter - Fruit-Powered

Hello, readers. I’m writing a day after the first weekly March class for 30-Day Raw Challenge participants at Arnold’s Way. I volunteer to help others during these classes, which are a lot of fun, particularly with an engaged crowd, as it was last night. These 13—some with the goal of triumphing over cancer and others, losing weight—who attended Tuesday night are so lucky. They got to hear firsthand from three raw vegans about how to transition to a raw food diet.

Arnold Kauffman with a sign saying "Arnold's Way Welcomes You to the Raw Food Capital of the World"
Owner Arnold Kauffman proudly displays a new 6-foot-long banner that hangs from the ceiling at the raw vegan café Arnold’s Way in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, on February 27, 2014. It includes Arnold’s signature saying, “Every moment is a moment of love.”

I realize, though, that not everyone has The Raw Food Capital of the World right down the street from them. This is why I recommend those exploring or transitioning to a raw food diet enlist the help of someone who’s had success leading this kind of lifestyle. I offer a variety of coaching plans designed to help the kind of person who wants to talk or chat by e-mail. Two packages include my books, Alive! and A Taste of Raw Food: 7 Days of Smoothies ‘n’ Salads.

Josh Tiska before and after a low-fat raw vegan dietSpring is almost upon us here in the Northern Hemisphere, and this is prime time for many desiring to slim down or ramp up their energy levels for lots of fun in the sun in the coming months! “Become the best possible version of yourself,” as Josh Tiska, who lost 100 pounds on a vegan and mostly raw food diet, writes in his guest transformation story this issue. Josh visited and volunteered at Arnold’s Way in December and has been enjoying oranges in Florida.

Robert Lockhart rests against a rocky surface with several fruitsThis month in Fruit-Powered Magazine, I profile Robert Lockhart. Robert began chasing optimal health when he was 25, and at 70, this low-fat raw vegan walks on his hands great distances for exercise. Robert shares his remarkable insight on diet, fitness, dry fasting and life in general. You can listen to Robert answer my interview questions in the embedded audio file, and this generous man set aside extra time to address dry fasting.

If you’re in Greater Philadelphia, I welcome you to stop by one of my classes at Arnold’s Way. I’m giving two a month, with the Low-Fat Raw Food Class set for the third Saturday at 10 a.m. and the Raw Food Recipe Class marked for the fourth Thursday at 6:30 p.m. At the next recipe class, warm up to a Tex-Mex Fiesta! I’ll make—and you’ll taste—raw vegan translations of a margarita, nachos, tacos, chili, soup and salad! I’ll also serve up tips on which foods to watch out for when you’re going for an authentic taste. Call 215–361–0116 in advance for both classes to reserve your seat.

I’m also going to give four recipe classes at 1 p.m. Saturdays in July at Chef Wendy Landiak’s Shankara Vegan Restaurant and Organic Juice Bar in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. These four classes will tie in with the spring and summer launch of a four-volume recipe book series I’m developing featuring 10 of the world’s leading raw vegans and their top dishes—plus my favorites! Free yourself of any health challenges that might face you and come to learn how to make a variety of delicious, nutritious recipes. Call or text Wendy at 484–330–6405 to sign up for these classes. More details coming soon!
