Summer Festival Season and Raw Experience 4, ‘Driven’ Raw Fooders
Hello, readers! August is here! It’s prime time for peaches in the United States, and what a yummy meal these wonderfully aromatic, tender fruits make! Watermelon—there’s something special about it!—has also been a real treat! And tomatoes—well, I’ve been enjoying lots of Gazpacho Joy during these warm-weather months!

Lots of you might be headed to the Woodstock Fruit Festival in the second half of August, and some others might’ve just returned from England for the UK Fruit Fest, Slovenia for the Fruits and Health Festival or Thailand for the Raw Till 4 Thai Festival. Other fruit festivals have been held, including the Fresh Food Festival in Denmark, or will still be held such as the Raw Fruit Festival in Spain. All these are signs that the number of folks enjoying a yummy-to-the-tummy fruit-based diet is growing!
Hooray!
I’m active in the community at the raw vegan café Arnold’s Way in Lansdale, Pennsylvania. If you’re in the Northeast or traveling to Woodstock, join us for Raw Experience 4 on Saturday, August 16. A 12-hour event is planned, kicking off with meditation and aerial yoga in the neighboring Center for Longevity. Several speakers will discuss their experiences on a raw food diet, and several chefs, including this column writer, will give recipe demonstrations. (I’m on from 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. and will also give a class August 28 at 6:30 p.m. at Arnold’s Way in support of my Smoothies book from my four-volume Mouthwatering Recipe Book Series). This event will close with the premiere screening of Arnold Kauffman‘s newest film, Breast Cancer Awakening. It costs only $10 to attend Raw Experience 4—and you even get a free $5 green smoothie with your ticket! Speaking of Arnold’s Way, our All-You-Can-Eat Buffets have attracted 40, 75 and 100 people—the biggest Arnold’s Way potluck ever!—since May!
This week, Fruit-Powered Magazine tells its 63rd and 64th transformation stories, spotlighting a pair of driven individuals. Author, coach, mentor, yoga instructor, retreat host and Woodstock Fruit Festival pioneer Ellen Livingston is an amazing woman who overcame a devastating knee injury as a teenager and began learning about how food played a role in her recovery. Ellen suffered from a range of symptoms and, in time, found yoga, a low-fat raw food diet and so much more! Enjoy her incredibly moving profile, Fruit Wraps recipe and, next week, her outstanding Top Tips!
Robby Barbaro is an inspiring young man who has managed Type 1 diabetes on a low-fat raw food diet. He has overcome acne, allergies, athlete’s foot and plantar fasciitis on a fruit-based diet. Robbie went to such lengths to share his experiences eating this kind of diet that he logged data, including food consumption, for a year so all may see every step of his journey.
Also in this week’s Magazine installment, Lessons from the Orchard guest writer Dr. David Klein shares an excerpt from Fasting & Eating for Mind-Body Purification. He focuses on how the proper diet can produce a clean, attractive and youthful body and improve your mental alertness and self-esteem. How do you like them apples?
