One-Year 100 Percent Raw Birthday
Hello, readers. I celebrated my one-year anniversary being 100 percent raw—a state that’s much, much better than being 90 percent raw, which I was in 2011—a few days ago with a pizza specially prepared by Anna Chmielewska of Fruitarianna.com. Pesto. Marinara. “Cheese.” Marinated tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms and herbs. All served on a buckwheat crust. Total flavor dance in big, bold movements. It was pizza to live for, as opposed to die for, said in common parlance—let me tell you!
Sitting down to a buckwheat-crust pizza for dinner isn’t how I eat every day. Rather, this rare kind of meal for me came as a nice changeup, especially during the Northeast United States’ cold winter, when it’s challenging to find some favorites such as watermelon. In February, I learned some more about buckwheat while editing Anna’s debut book, Things You Can Do with Buckwheat in a Raw Kitchen, to be released March 8 in the Fruit-Powered store. Anna was inspired to write the book, featuring 50 recipes for burgers, burritos, ethnic dishes, pies and more, to help transitioning raw fooders prepare low-fat gourmet raw meals and treats. Buckwheat serves as an affordable, high-carbohydrate replacement for fatty nuts and seeds. Enjoy an interview with Anna in Fruit-Powered Magazine.
Like myself, Swayze Foster, who I profile in this month’s Magazine, recommends a transition to a raw food diet. Swayze is a shining light in the raw food world, running FitOnRaw.com. This site offers videos, a membership club for transitioning raw fooders, Swayze’s three books, including her newly released and excellently researched and written The Science of Eating Raw, and more.
I am excited to share with you two other inspiring stories in this month’s e-magazine. The Magazine presents an inspiring piece penned by Matthew David of NaturesPilgrim.com on his well-considered journey for health and harmony in the world. I’m always excited to learn about what Matthew and his partner are up to, be it in person or via Matthew’s website or YouTube channel.
When I launched Fruit-Powered Magazine, I promised you features, and this month’s issue brings you an article on Arnold Kauffman, owner of the raw food café Arnold’s Way. Arnold is supremely rawkin’ at 65 years young, doing the best work of his 21-year career in the health movement, what with books, films, YouTube videos, classes, programs and potlucks on the menu these days.
A couple of quick notes: I did an interview with MyHealthyDiet.net on my low-fat raw food diet. Johnny Nucell by Arnold Kauffman and Jessica Thim is now available in the Fruitarian Store. This book joins last month’s addition, Seven-Point-Seven, by Arnold Kauffman with Michael Pifer.
