How Does Your Body Stack Up?
How do your eight load-bearing joints—shoulders, hips, knees and ankles (plus your ear lobe, in side view)—stack up compared with Roger Posture (below), the gold standard for posture and joint alignment? Wearing shorts and a T-shirt, stand in front of a body-length mirror. With your eyes closed, march in place a few steps and stop. With your eyes still closed, where do you feel your body’s weight? Does your weight shift to either the left or right side more? Does your weight shift to the heels or balls of your feet as well as to the arches or outer edges of your feet? Now open your eyes and look in the mirror. Do either or both of your feet point inward or outward? Do your kneecaps point inward or outward? Is one hip seated higher than the other? Do you see the backs of your hands, a telltale sign of rounded shoulders? Is one shoulder raised high than the other? Turn and check out your alignment from each side. Are your hips and head forward of your shoulders? How closely do your shoulders, hips, knees and ankles line up?
