Interview with The 80/10/10 Diet Author; Doug Graham–Karen Ranzi Seminar
Hello, readers. I couldn’t be more excited about the second issue of Fruit-Powered Digest! I am pleased to bring you a special conversation with Dr. Doug Graham, author of the groundbreaking book The 80/10/10 Diet. Dr. Graham’s work has had a major impact on my life, and he was kind enough to work with me last spring when I sought permission to quote select passages from this masterpiece in my raw food transition book, Alive! Dr. Graham delivered again when I asked him whether he’d complete 10 thoughts I initiated through a few targeted words. This became our conversation, which spans 80/10/10 to his personal life.
I enjoyed the privilege of finally meeting Dr. Graham in person along with Karen Ranzi at a Raw Food Central seminar October 13 in Windsor, Connecticut. These bright, personable raw food leaders discussed how to raise healthy families and provided insight into their experiences with their children. In one example, Ranzi relayed how her children enjoyed great independence when it came to eating meals and physical endurance when it came to playing sports. During a private dinner, Ranzi played a video in which her daughter explains how she veered off the raw food course during her teenage and college years but has since come full circle, embracing a low-fat raw food diet.
Dr. Graham recounted when someone suggested he was performing an “experiment” on his 7-year-old daughter by raising her as a home-schooled raw vegan. He then painted a picture of our recent times—touching on schools that force growing children to sit still most of the day, television programs and spots that brainwash susceptible minds and suboptimal foods that damage bodies and cloud thinking—before declaring the true experiment, being done on the masses, has failed and must stop now.
In this month’s Fruit-Powered Digest, I’m also happy to bring you the story of Tim and Leslie Arnold of Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, right outside Philadelphia. Tim and Leslie are regulars at the monthly raw food potlucks at Arnold’s Way in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, and their effervescent attitude and commitment to raw food and running helped inspire me to leap for the land of 100 percent raw. In my life, going wholly raw from 90 percent raw made the difference between struggling with brain fog, with yo-yo-ing energy, and feeling clear-minded and on fire!
I hope you enjoy this issue, which comes out to launch November’s American Diabetes Month, right on the heels of October’s National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. More than one out of three Americans are affected by diabetes, undiagnosed diabetes or prediabetes, according to the Centers for Disease Control. I know there’s a better way to live and want to help educate rather than promote merely disease awareness or ways to manage health challenges. I say let’s get at the causes—in almost all cases, lifestyle—so folks can heal and then thrive! It’s about time folks stood up for themselves and reclaimed their health, don’t you think?
P.S.: One reader wrote me in early October:
Love your e-mag … . Have been looking for something like this for a long time, but no one has one. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! I’ll do my best!
