Modern living calls for too much sitting, standing and watching, but the Egoscue Method is the remedy for this! In nature, man and woman moved to gather fruits and greens. These days, many of us are tragically parked in front of computer or television screens most of the day. Our bodies won’t stand for this, and they let us know in the form of so-called bad backs and knees and other aches and pains.

Injuries have a way of telling many that they’re getting old. But as long as we eat our species-specific diet and exercise, our bodies are designed to work and work well until the day we die. These folks are simply out of alignment!

We have eight load-bearing joints—two each of shoulders, hips, knees and ankles—and when one of them gets out of alignment, we begin a downward spiral in which the body calls on compensating muscles to complete actions such as carrying 40-pound cases of bananas! Think that carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by an issue in your wrist? It’s likely caused by a misaligned shoulder, so all the physical therapy in the world—well, almost all—can focus on strengthening your wrist but never address the misaligned shoulder.

The good news is that we can reverse and prevent pain and injuries from happening by completing stretches and exercises designed to restore the body’s proper postural alignment. If you’re severely misaligned, launching a workout program isn’t recommended because you likely won’t perform exercises correctly and might hurt yourself even more! The Egoscue Method, however, can help you straighten and strengthen your body. It is the only physical therapy program that treats the body as a unit, not a collection of individual parts. It is also the only physical therapy program that focuses on posture and addresses causes, not symptoms, as is commonplace in the health-care industry.

Quite simply, if raw foods provide optimal conditions for healing to occur in the body, so, too, does the Egoscue Method provide optimal conditions for healing to occur in the form of postural alignment.

I reversed chronic back and neck pain and carpal and cubital tunnel syndromes by utilizing the Egoscue Method and was a client for six years, starting in April 2010. I tell the story about how I reversed pain and limitation via the Egoscue Method and launched an evolving fitness program in Alive!, my raw food transition book.

Once I had begun to reverse chronic pain, I launched an exercise program—encompassing circuit training using Bodylastics bands, running, practicing vinyasa yoga and rebounding using a JumpSport rebounder—that has helped me turn back the clock physically. Of course, leading a low-fat raw food diet helps the body feel fantastic, too!
